Alicia Adams Alpaca

For this project, we migrated alicia adams alpaca and their store from BigCommerce to Shopify Plus. We needed to create a compelling site design that would attract new customers and communicate alicia adams alpaca’s unique value proposition.

Project Overview

Alicia Adams Alpaca is a family business that specializes in the design and production of textiles and clothing utilizing the natural and sustainable characteristics of one of the rarest and most luxurious materials - alpaca wool.

Alicia moved from Germany to New York to breed and raise Suri alpacas - one of the world’s rarest breeds. While her husband built one of the nation’s leading Suri breeding programs, Alicia embarked on what would become alicia adams alpaca. Alicia’s work started as a hobby - a way to make use of the hundreds of pounds of shorn fiber that the farm’s animals produced annually. 

 Over a decade later, the brand is an innovative and prominent front-runner in the spaces of sustainable luxury, rare fibers, and emerging trends.

After over a decade in business, alicia adams alpaca had outgrown their existing storefront on BigCommerce and needed to upgrade their digital experience to align with their premium, high quality garments. 

Aztech was approached by the team at alicia adams alpaca to re-design and upgrade their Storefront to create a more elegant and sophisticated eCommerce experience.

For this project, we migrated alicia adams alpaca and their store from BigCommerce to Shopify Plus. We needed to create a compelling site design that would attract new customers and communicate alicia adams alpaca’s unique value proposition.

Key Challenges

With the store migration, we had to migrate the entire product catalog of alicia adams alpacas products. There were over 250 products, with some products containing over 100 variants, which meant migrating thousands of variants in total.

Alicia adams alpaca wanted to elevate their store aesthetic. We had to keep this in mind as we mapped out and wireframed an elevated User Experience to appease their target customer demographic. We had to approach this in a balanced fashion in order to capture the essence of the story and the brand, while also communicating the premium and elegant end product that alicia adams alpaca have become so renowned for.

We also had to think strategically about alicia adams alpacas wholesale customers and create a dedicated B2B storefront for their Wholesale and Trade clients with Shopify Plus.

Our Solution

We sought to deliver a holistic store and user experience that represented the roots of the alicia adams alpaca brand. Their origin story and apparel craftsmanship did not shine through enough in their old storefront and we wanted to put a large emphasis on creating that connection between customers and the brand, right from the beginning of their experience on the site. 

With this in mind, we re-imagined the UX Design and storefront aesthetic to communicate the essence of their brand and story, all while elevating the user experience, functionality and speed of the site. 

From a development standpoint, we conducted a lot of custom building in order to achieve the desired look and feel of the site. This included customization for a Shoppable lookbook that allows customers to browse alicia adams alpaca’s latest press releases and seasonal lookbooks and shop their favorite products simultaneously. We wanted to make the browsing experience more interactive and dynamic. The shoppable lookbook achieved this beautifully. 

This project also required a large product migration from their previous BigCommerce store. A large product catalog, coupled with a very large amount of color variants meant that we migrated north of 2,500 total product variants across to their new Shopify Plus store. 

It was also important to serve  alicia adams alpaca’s large cohort of wholesale customers. To do this, we built a dedicated B2B storefront for their wholesale and trade clients. This allowed these clients to have their own portal to access exclusive products and wholesale pricing. On top of this, it also meant that the  alicia adams alpaca team would be able to manage inventory and attribute sales across varying customer types and cohorts.
